Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Hawk

I've heard a lot of good things about Boyd Hill Nature Preserve and for the first time in a long time, I didn't have anything planned this weekend. So, I headed to the southern part of St Petersburg this morning to explore some new territory.

Boyd Hill has nearly six miles of trails along Lake Maggiore and I walked about three of those miles this morning. Despite the heat, there was enough wildlife to keep me busy shooting almost 300 pictures in just under 2 hours.

Word to the wise, the 25th annual Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Photography Contest is coming up - entries are due by October 14, 2007. It costs $8 to enter each photo, maximum of four photos - and the prizes are pretty nice! Just ask my friend Robert - he won best in show last year!

Cars suck!

Cars Suck

I decided to drive around this morning and find some things to take pictures of. I ended up in downtown Clearwater first, and I came across this guy sitting next to his bicycle fishing in Clearwater Harbor. His t-shirt read "Cars Suck".

After getting some photos of the downtown architecture, I headed over to Taylor Park to see if there was anything interesting there. I found a Moorhen chick that want it's picture taken so I obliged. I was able to also get pretty close to an Anhinga and get some shots off as well.

It was hot out though so I didn't spend a lot of time out in the heat. The first preseason football game is tonight so I need to make sure I'm well rested for that. WooHoo!
